As many may have observed Riverford do not offer a substitution or opt
out for items you do or don't like in your veg boxes. I have been told
by Riverford this is how they keep their boxes at their prices.

Which is understandable and I have no major qualms about. However, I have
been thinking... yes i know dangerous!

What if we built up our own area swap shops?

For those that don't care for some things to swap with those that do!?

We could liaise here on the forum or on Facebook in our own areas and choose meet up locations for
swapping?

Any thoughts?

Hi Stephanie

great idea - I will look into setting up a swap group section! Would certainly be possible in a fairly well populated area. Give me a few days though as i'm off for the weekend! I am sure we can sort something out though. We might be able to do it by postcode perhaps - will just need to check the site capabilities etc. We could trial it maybe.

Watch this space!
I have decided that getting veg that I wouldn't usually use is a way of spicing up our diet and encouraging the family to try new things... that said I've only been getting boxes for a few weeks so I may change my mind, but so far we have enjoyed everything, and the challenge of finding new recipes.... but I'm up for anything that would make sure we used up everything and didn't waste ....
That wasn't really what the purpose of my idea was about Natalie. It's not that I'm not willing to try new things, don't get me wrong I love getting stuff i've not had before. I'm talking about things I have had before and know i do not like or that my partner does not like. It just ends up going to waste, or we already have plenty of it from the previous week and we just can't use it up before it goes off. At the moment we are wasting a lot of potatoes and tomatoes. I've recently been opting out of the box and going for the individual pick order. Our chickens like the tomatoes but they won't and shouldn't eat raw potatoes. I can only cook so many in a day! I work really long hours got some in the pot at the moments for potato salad. lol
Sorry Stephanie, wasn't meaning to upset you - what I was trying to say was I think it's a good idea, but I don't know how much I'd use it, being fairly new to boxes, but the principle behind it is a good one. For tomatoes I'd probably make a lot of chutney. I'm also making a lot of soup and freezing it but I guess there'll come a time when I might want to swap or make use of your idea....
No you didn't upset me! don't be silly :)

I just work from half 6 in the morning until about 10pm most days and my free time is spent on either cooking meals for the day or doing house work and errands. I don't really have time to be boiling jars, stewing veggies and fruits to make chutneys. But I do however have time to drop by the local town hall or pop down to the local church to donate it to someone who would like the food i'm not using. I was just saying it would be nice if like minded folks would want to do the same. :)

The only reason i have any time today is because my schedule was short this morning for a meeting and the electrician is coming round to sort out the lights in the kitchen. So i can't be in the kitchen until they do the wiring!
Wow - what long hours!
I think my intention is to make chutneys etc. but often I don't follow through thanks to shifts and running round after the kids. In fact, the idea you had is (realistically) much better than chutney making,,,, LOL
Well if you do get a wild hair you can send me some chutney i'm sure i can find time to eat it!! hahah :D ;)
